KUWAIT: MP Waleed AlÜTabtabaie has urged the Ministry of Communications to adopt a proper method of dealing with Web sites, which he said "work on tarnishing the image of others, practice blasphemy and publish pornography."
The MP said: "Some have misused the internet and governments all over the world have the right to restrict or permit certain Web sites. The Director of Censorship Department at the ministry, Nasser AlÜKandari, did the right thing by trying to ban YouTube to defend the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). The ministry should work on developing this important department to regulate censoring similar Web sites."
AlÜTabtabaie also expressed concern regarding reports that the Head of Operations at Kuwait Airways Captain Ahmed AlÜKribani has been asked to submit his resignation. He said: "The request was executed by KAC and welcomed by the Ministry of Communications, even though Captain AlÜKribani is known to be a competent Captain who has no particular shortcomings and whose colleagues will back him up."
The lawmaker criticized KAC, saying: "KAC has been suffering from deliberate negligence for years now. Some influential groups are aiming to cleanse KAC of qualified Kuwaitis, in order to replace them with incompetent employees. Other captains are expected to stand against this decision, especially when this position is very critical and could jeopardize KAC''s spotless history."
Meanwhile, MP Mohammed AlÜAbduljader directed a parliamentary question to the Minister of Public Works and State Minister for Municipality Affairs criticizing the increasing phenomenon of bachelors living amongst Kuwaiti families in residential areas. He demanded to know what actions have been taken by the Municipality, how many violators were cited at all governorates and what the suggested solutions for this growing problem are.
The lawmaker has also directed a question to the minister of health asking about the measures taken by the ministry against the infectious disease Cholera. He requested information regarding what sort of publications have been distributed to people in order to increase their awareness and whether the ministry has stored enough antibiotics and medicines to face any expected emergency.
In an unrelated development, MP Abdullah AlÜBarghash has approved terminating the services of Dr. Esam AlÜBasheer from the Center for the Promotion of the Moderate Practice of Islam, as a decision in the proper direction toward reform. He said: "The services of Dr. AlÜBasheer should have been terminated a long time ago. The Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Hussein AlÜHuraiti had made the right decision, especially when there are many competent Kuwaitis who can fill this position."
